ABOUT

Sam Turner Chapin is a New York based actor, singer, and as fellow Kansas City native Joyce DiDonato says, a student of life. Motivated by the powerful connection art has between communities and affecting change, his work spans into multiple facets of the performing and visual arts, always with the intention to empower, educate, empathize, and entertain.

Recent performances and concerts include: ELF: THE MUSICAL (MTKCPro), OPERA SCENES (Figaro, International Lyric Academy- Vicenza, Italy), STC: Soliloquy (Sheslow Auditorium), STC & the Leading Players (Turner Jazz Center), and Cranky Cabaret (Shelter Studios).

While he received his BFA in musical theatre at Drake University, he has been training classically as a lyric baritone under the tutelage of Robert McNichols, Jr. Recent opera credits include chorus’ in CARMEN (Des Moines Opera Project), DON GIOVANNI (International Lyric Academy- Vicenza, Italy), and THE MAGIC FLUTE (Drake University). His passion for opera started young, growing up through Lyric Opera of Kansas City’s childrens’ choruses, Ginger Frosts’ High School Honors Artists program, and creating his own internship within their outreach program bringing opera to KC area schools.

He has worked as a part of the creative team for Home Grown Theatre Company, costuming many of their productions throughout the KC metro area: PAN’S LABYRINTH (workshop), SPRING AWAKENING (MTH Stage 2), THE HEIDI CHRONICLES (The Fishtank), TWO BY TENNESSEE (Arts Asylum), CABARET (Morning Glory Antiques), and DOGFIGHT (Just Off-Broadway).
